Landing

Landing is a short movement film by Saumya Sharma and Bineet Kaur, two artists who grew up in India and now live elsewhere. The film explores what it means to have, and forego, a sense of home.

The film is told through movement in place of dialogue. It traces a shared experience: leaving home, searching for belonging, shaping new versions of self along the way.

Landing moves through these phases: childhood in gardens, longing for something else, becoming too big for what was allowed. We land in new places, new selves, then drift again. It was filmed in Jaipur, Saumya’s hometown, ten years after she first left. One of the locations is Hawa Mahal, the “palace of winds” designed by Saumya’s ancestor, in the late 1700s.
This film holds sanctuary in the body—where memory, identity, and belonging live beyond language or location. We carry home inside us, in gestures, in breath, in movement.

Home is a place you can keep returning to, or maybe it’s not a place at all.
